Iron pour
Fleming recently returned from a 3D Symposium in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Here she poured some open faced molds in iron, including one surprise for her father. Hoping he is not reading this, she created an anvil shape out of clay and carved the phrase, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” She placed it in a sand mold, and though it broke coming out, the mold remains intact. This phrase is one her father has repeated her whole life in memory of his late best friend, and he has reminded her that the most valuable of friendships are those that push you to be better everyday.
Laced with labor
Fleming is currently tying friendship bracelet style knots in embroidery string around her steel sculptures. She is examining the differences in gendered labors, or more so their unrecognized similarities.
